Miranda McKeon took to social media to keep her fans updated about her devastating cancer diagnosis.
The star of hit Netflix series Anne with an E revealed last month that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of just 19.
And now the actress has announced that she has undergone her first chemotherapy session as she fights the horrible disease.
Taking to Instagram, the star said that her first appointment had been pushed back a day, making her stomach “drop to the floor”.
The actress described the “rollercoaster” of emotions she was feeling, but said that now “the deed has been done”.
She wrote: “I currently have my first cocktail of AC chemo circulating through my body.”
She continued: “1 round done…7 to go. (3 more AC, 4 Taxol. Chemo once every 2 weeks. 4 months in all. Then second phase- surgery and radiation)”
Miranda admitted to PEOPLE that she had found a lump on her breast while adjusting her shirt during a weekend away at the beach with her friends.
After an initial panic, she thought that it couldn’t be serious because of her age, but she made an appointment with the doctor anyway.
And thankfully she did as it turned out she had stage three breast cancer which had spread to her lymph nodes.
She learned she was “one in a million” due to her age but has always thought that she will “get through” it.
She said: “Although I don’t have the easiest case scenario, like I wish it hadn’t spread to my lymph nodes or that it was a little less complicated, I never had a moment where I was like, ‘Oh, am I going to die from this?’ That was never really a thought.
“I think this entire time it’s been more of like, ‘Okay, we’re going to treat this and solve it.”
And she revealed that because of her age, she’s had to think about a lot more than just beating cancer.
Miranda told how doctors had to speak to her just a day after learning she had cancer to discuss freezing her eggs incase she wanted to try to have kids in the future.
“That was gutting,” her mum Jill told PEOPLE. “I said to the doctor, ‘We’ll talk about that later, this is already enough information.’ She was like, ‘Actually, we’re talking about this because we have to.'”
And as the star attempts to “find the beauty in all of this,” she has started writing a blog to keep her followers updated.
“I’m hoping that by documenting a good majority of this, that someone else will be able to read it down the line when they need it and they can find comfort and healing through it in the way that I do writing it,” Miranda said.
