Last words girl, 12, said to mum before tragic death were about being raped

The mum of a 12-year-old girl who took her own life said she had been “traumatised” after being raped and was then bullied online over what happened.

Rachel Halliwell says the last words that her daughter, Semina, said to her was that she had been raped.

“After having her innocence taken, Semina was bullied online on a daily basis. She couldn’t take it any more,” she said.

Semina died on June 12, after spending four nights in hospital.

“She was a fighter. She survived three heart attacks,” said her mum.

“She was put into a coma on the Friday. The very last words my baby said to me before they put her in a coma was that she was raped.”

Semina’s mum said that she had also suffered from online bullying after she had been raped

Her tragic case was raised at a parliamentary committee, when Labour MP Apsana Begum asked Education Secretary Gavin Williamson what more can be done to help protect children from abuse.

Ms Begum said: “I wanted to highlight the case of Semina who was 12 years old who disclosed that she’d been raped, and has committed suicide last week.”

Rachel had reported the rape case to the police and it was being investigated.

She continued: “Semina was so beautiful, and so funny. She loved singing and dancing.

“She had been asked by model agencies to work for them but she wasn’t confident enough. She didn’t see how beautiful she was.

“She was loving and caring, and loved her brothers Rafy and Jorge so much, and she was so loved by friends and family, far and wide.

“I am heartbroken beyond words. There is a void in my heart that can never be filled.”

Tributes have poured in for Semina with one person writing: “So heart-breaking. Thinking of all the family at this terrible time.”

It was echoed in a similar comment: “This is utterly heart-breaking to hear about, our thoughts, love and prayers are with all the family.”
