Los Angeles County Officially Reinstates Mask Mandates Regardless Of Vaccination Status As COVID-19 Cases Continue To Rise – The Shade Room

Roommates, if you’re a Los Angeles resident, get ready to stock up on masks once again because the city has just announced that mask mandates will be back in place whether you’re vaccinated or not. In response to the rising COVID-19 numbers, Los Angeles County officials have formally decided that residents are required to wear masks when in public.

Earlier this month, Los Angeles County officials, led by L.A. County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis, suggested that residents go back to wearing masks—and now that suggestion has turned into a mandatory order. The new mask mandate will officially go into effect at 11:59 PM on July 17th, and it’s said that the order will be similar to the requirements that were put in place back on June 15th when California reopened.

Throughout the last few weeks, L.A. County has seen an alarming rise in COVID-19 cases, specifically this week, which reported an average of 1,077 new cases daily, and today 1,537 cases were recorded. That number is a 261% increase from just two weeks ago, as the stronger Delta variant of COVID-19 continues to spread rapidly.

Speaking about the decision, Davis said, “We’re not where we need to be for the millions at risk of infection here in Los Angeles County, and waiting to do something will be too late given what we’re seeing now. [The order will remain] in place until we begin to see improvements. Anything is on the table if things continue to get worse, which is why we want to take action now.”

Davis also added that he believes indoor mask-wearing in public places is the most efficient way to stop the spread of COVID-19 without interrupting operations at local businesses and venues.
