Johnson & Johnson Recalling Neutrogena And Aveeno Sunscreen Products Due To Levels Of Cancer-Causing Chemicals – The Shade Room

#Roommates, Johnson & Johnson is once again at the center of a major health-related issue involving several of its products. According to new reports, Johnson & Johnson is recalling its Neutrogena and Aveeno sunscreen products after levels of cancer-causing chemicals were found.

@NBCNews reports, earlier this week, Johnson & Johnson officially decided to recall five of its Neutrogena and Aveeno sunscreen products after samples were discovered to contain low levels of the chemical benzene—which is known to cause cancer with repeated exposure. The recalled products include the following contained in aerosol cans: Aveeno Protect + Refresh aerosol sunscreen, Neutrogena Beach Defense aerosol sunscreen, Neutrogena CoolDry Sport aerosol sunscreen, Neutrogena Invisible Daily Defense aerosol sunscreen, and Neutrogena UltraSheer aerosol sunscreen. The recall is for all of the listed sunscreen products in all sizes and SPF levels.

The company stated that the benzene was found in the products following company testing by an independent laboratory—and the company is currently investigating how it got into the sunscreen. Additionally, the company further revealed that it is diligently working on getting the tainted products removed from all stores throughout the country. Customers who purchased the sunscreen have been informed that they can request a refund by calling the company’s Consumer Care Center.

In a recently released statement, the company addressed the recall, saying that the “use of these products would not be expected to cause adverse health consequences” and that the recall was done voluntarily “out of an abundance of caution.”

Benzene is known to cause cancer with repeated exposure at high levels, resulting in damage to the immune system and preventing cells from proper function. Symptoms can include dizziness, irregular heartbeat, convulsions, and in severe cases, death.
